South Faces

Its seems strange at first, looking for the good snow on the opposite side of the mountain. As if in some parallel universe, up is down, winter in the summer, backwards mountains… No not a bizarro world, a very real world in the southern Hemisphere called, Chile. In the middle of August all it takes to get excited is thinking of snow . Wishing for powder, not caring if it was hard pack, as we headed into the mountains I  knew that it was going to be fun.”

First turns down the several day old pow felt  too good to be true, fresh, soft, boot top deep. Off the couch the crew rallied, shredding 10 runs or more after a red-eye flight into a crack-o-noon start.

Hey Sage, I’m chilean and I think it’s awesome that you’re in Chile. I admire you as a skiier and all TGR crew, you’re pushing the sport further and further each year, and the how you managed to make a living by skiing, it still blows me out. About “south faces”, I have also think about how strange would it be to search for the good snow on the north face, it’s a beautifull upside-downside world that gives us the oportunity to ski all year long. I been willing to visit jackson hole but still haven’t got the chance… someday. On sunday the 7th of september, some friends and I are going to Portillo, which is an amazing place to seize the pow just using the lifts, and the place is so beautifull and just 2 hours away from Santiago by highway. Two weeks ago, a storm produced 6 feet of powder in just 24 hours and this week there have been several little blizzards, so the snow conditions, although not perfect, will be very good. If you want to come and ski with us, I’d be more than honoured. Just email me if you want. I wish you the best luck in this ski trip. Peace.
